Prada Spring 2012: The Return of Rockabilly

For Spring 2012, the Prada woman fuses herself with her automobile. Or rather, with a man's automobile.

This was probably one of her most personal collections in years: the below the knee pleated skirts, the bomber jackets (in luxurious satins and embroidered leathers) and the chiffon twinsets were how she likes to dress.

Para la Primavera de 2012, la mujer Prada se fusiona con su coche. O más bien, con el coche de su hombre.

1950's. Prada female remind us to Marilyn in her accordion-pleated dress from The Seven Year Itch. The models did walk over a subway grate, but it was unfortunately technically impossible to provide the updraft that would have gusted skirts skyward in a re-creation of one of Hollywood's most iconic movie moments.

Although Phoebe Philo insisted she gave up creating 'IT' bags when she started designing for Céline, she still managed to create a hit - the Céline luggage tote. She is one of my new favorites: the french Aymeline Valade who's even though have 25 years old, a fresh new face that really just highlighted recently, appearing in the best shows, editorials and campaigns (Etro, Just Cavalli, Kenzo ..). Here's her new shoot from Russh Magazine where Aymeline takes to the streets and roadways of New York City in a jovial story is lighthearted and whimsical with jazz inspired editorial. Featuring designs from the likes of Burberry Prorsum, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander Wang and Michael Kors.

Es una de mis nuevas favoritas: la francesa Aymeline Valade que a pesar de sus ya 25 años es un rostro fresco que realmente acaba de despuntar hace muy poquito, figura en los mejores desfiles, editoriales y campañas (Etro, Just Cavalli, Kenzo..). For this collection, Riccardo Tisci has taken inspiration from the bird of paradise – both the mythical animal and the flower. The dresses are airy and structured and make use of angelic colours and light materials. A tulle evening dress is enhanced with sequins that have been individually sewn on, creating a three-dimensional effect. Another in pony is embroidered with curly goose and hand-woven ostrich feathers. The tops matching the dresses are in tulle and have embroidery with tiny, interwoven pearls and grey cashmere, giving an artisan effect

Amazing 64-page editorial (one of my favorites) in the August 09 issue of Vogue Paris shot by Inez & Vinoodh and curated by the magazine’s editor Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt and Joe McKenna. 64 looks, 64 brands, from Calvin Klein to Yohji Yamamoto to YSL to Balmain, each look creates an iconic image that embodies each brand, definitely a who’s who guide in the industry and if that weren’t enough it features some of the greatest faces around, including favorites like Raquel Zimmermann, Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik, Sessilee Lopez, Lily Donaldson, Lara Stone and Daria Werbowy, who’s also on the cover.

Like a breath of fresh air brought in from a distant meadow, Kate and Laura Mulleavy's autumn/winter 2011-12 collection for their label Rodarte was a much needed moment of reprieve from busy hubbub of the maddening world around it. Fresh off the heels of last season's collection which critics praised for being both deeply felt and the right balance of vision and enterprise, the sisters have mined their imaginations and maintained a through-line of quiet grace and spectacular clothing.

Como un soplo de aire fresco traído de un prado lejano, Kate y Laura Mulleavy en la próxima temporada Otoño / Invierno 2011-12 proponen en su firma Rodarte un ambiente muy necesario de respiro del bullicio para un mundo repleto de gente ocupada y enloquecida que se mueve en él. La frescura caracterizó la colección de la temporada pasada, que la crítica elogió por ser muy sentida y con el equilibrio correcto de la visión de la empresa, y esta vez las hermanas han minado su imaginación, manteniendo un hilo conductor con la gracia de calma y de la confección espectacular que ya nos habían mostrado con anterioridad.

This time, the sisters moved away from their literal take on the powerful Redwoods of California and focused on the pastoral imagery of the land itself. The clothing had strong ties to the prairies and pioneers, with long floor-grazing sun-dresses in flaxen, muted gold and sky blue.

The Mulleavys rescued the collection from being bogged down in factual platitudes through exploring, as they are prone to do, the mythical subtexts of historical truths. The Arts and Crafts Movement had a heavy influence with homespun crocheting, reminiscent of doilies, inlaid in many pieces, folksy embroideries, decorative macramé overlays and the use of horsehair fabrics for textural contrast.

Asi que en esta colección, las hermanas se alejan de las secuoyas de California de grandes dimensiones y se centran en las imágenes pastorales de la tierra. La ropa tenía fuertes vínculos con las praderas y los pioneros, con largos vestidos que caen con gracia hasta el suelo con paisajes soleados en lino en oro viejo y azul cielo.

Las hermanas Mulleavy han rescatado la colección sin caer en la inspiración de lugares comunes a través de la exploración, ya que son propensas a coger ideas de la historia y los mitos de cada lugar. El Movimiento Arts & Crafts fue una gran influencia en el ganchillo de andar por casa, con reminiscencias de tapetes, con incrustaciones en algunas piezas, bordados folk, macramé decorativo, superposiciones y el uso de tejidos de crin para el contraste de texturas.

There was a certain narrative to this show as well, one filled with secret dangers. Long draped gowns in silk surfaced throughout the collection with the azure blue sky above and a print of cornstalk edging at the hem. But as the show progressed, the blue skies shown darkened, and two red dresses - sultry and malevolent - with carnal, flashy sequins and horned shoulders emerged (on of-the-moment newcomer Lindsey Wixson and Karlie Kloss, no less), with demonic intent, creating an exciting tension. Things are not as serene as they appear on the surface. The sisters seemed to urge for us to look deeper at the seemingly tranquil facade. Were these settlers grappling with inner demons? Was there a dark truth hidden beneath the placid surface of the bucolic pastures? We're not sure, but the if it's any indication, the last looks - again, silk printed sheaths - showed the churning clouds dismal grey and then, to close, a hellishly unnatural yellow

Había una cierta narrativa en este show, y algunos peligros secretos. Largos vestidos drapeados en seda surgidos a lo largo del desfile con el azul del cielo azul arriba y estampados de espigas de trigo o maíz en bajos y dobladillos. Pero a medida que avanzaba, el cielo azul se muestra más oscuro, y aparecen vestidos rojos - surgen con lentejuelas carnales, muy llamativos y los hombros de cuernos (como los que vestían Lindsey Wixson y Karlie Kloss), con demoníaca, sensual y malévola intención, creando una tensión excitante. Awesome editorial. If we stop to contemplate .. there is much intention to provoke the viewer. In these pictures we can see Crystal Renn feasting on big quantities of food. The quantity of food and her pose turn the picture into something extremely sensual or, on the contrary, nearly pornographic (See the picture with sausages and mashed potatoes). Food is the center of each picture, but also we should pay attention to styling, especially jewelry. In particular, reminds me a bit to some deadly sins, but subtly. It is a mixture of gluttony or sensuality (food), to wealth (jewellery) and to something familiar and cozy (knitted clothing).

There are some strong connections between food and sex (Crystal sucking her fingers or when she is eating a thick slice of raw ham and is holding a ham between her thighs, with a long knife stuck in it.).

The inspiration are Guy Bourdin’s work for Vogue in 1961.

If you are Richardson’s fans or if you have a good visual memory, you may remember he shot an editorial with a very similar theme for Vogue Paris in 2004: Péché de cher, starring Natasha Poly, was published on the December 2004/January 2005 issue.

Increible editorial. Si nos paramos a observar... hay mucha intención en provocar a quien las vea. En las imágenes podemos ves a una Crystal Renn en un festín con grandes cantidades de comida y su pose hace que la fotografía tome un matiz extremadamente sensual, o incluso rozando lo pornográfico. ( Mirad la imagen con las salchichas y el puré de patata). La comida es el centro de cada una, pero además deberíamos prestar atención al estilismo, especialmente las joyas. En particular, todo esto me recuerda un poco a los pecados capitales, pero muy sutilmente. Es una mezcla de gula y sensualidad (comida), la riqueza y avaricia (joyas) y a algo familiar y acogedor (prendas de punto).

Hay una fuerte conexión entre comida y sexo. (Crystal chupeteando sus dedos o cuando está comiendo carne sosteniendo la pieza de jamón entre sus piernas con un largo cuchillo clavado en ella).

La inspiración es el trabajo de Guy Bourdin para Vogue en 1961.

Si eres fan del trabajo de Terry Richardson y tienes buena memoria visual. quizá recuerdes su editorial con un tema muy similar para Vogue Paris del año 2004: Péché de cher, con Natasha Poly como protagonista, fue publicado en el número de Diciembre 2004/Enero 2005.
